On Friday, April 3rd, 2009, Jane Frances Thatcher turned 1! Her first round of presents were a trio of shots at the doctor's office. There, Jane weighed in at a whopping 23lbs. and 29 inches; the doctor then expressed how thankful he was that her head had decreased in size...another gift, I guess...
Before reading on, allow me to give you a little perspective. Jane is the third child. Her birthday happens to occur the week before Easter. And, in our home, she remains our 'baby'. Thus, her birthday "celebration" was quite small...
First, the older (I use this term loosely) girls and I made cupcakes. They mostly helped with the decorating (shown below).
Claire is picking the sprinkles off of her hand, and placing them (individually) on the cupcake.

Rory - in yet another costume creation - helps to frost, sugar and sprinkle most of the cupcakes.

TA-DA!

Now for the presentation! One cupcake, one candle, one hat and one super-catch-even the squishy icing crumbs-bib (also known as Baby Bjorn). Thank you Janet!

BLOW! Okay, I confess... I blew out the candle...

Ahhhhh, yes... What joy!

Jane knew exactly what to do: shove food in face.

While some enjoy the feeling of sand between their toes, Jane likes icing squeezed out through her fingers.

Before she realized she had completely inhaled the cupcake...

and, we gave her another half...

Then, Claire and Rory were able to choose and devour the results of their "hard" work.

The "After Party" began shortly thereafter. Dressing up and dancing to Eighties music is the way we Thatcher's like to end an event.

Jane has yet to master the concept of 'dress up'. This bracelet is all she could manage.

Our last song...

and GOODNIGHT!
