Gentry Farms

Every October, we visit a local pumpkin farm/patch - Gentry Farms. Our first stop is the Indian abode/wig-wam (see picture below) and the child-size log cabin. And, yes, Claire is attempting a new look - twigtails (aka, wisps of hair in pigtail formation).
Next, we experience the joy of a large rubber tire on a rope. This is Claire's first ride on a tire swing; she was ecstatic! Daddy and Jane gave her a big push! (Note the log cabin in the background.)
Rory takes a ride too. Sadly, she seemed to enjoy it less than she did the year before. I wonder if that means she's growing up...
Still, she smiles for the camera... and then asks if she can be "all done."
Last year, we were able to visit with a family of ducks. This year we walked all along the pond, but found no feathered friends. Claire calls out... "Bye-bye, ducky..."
Rory gently explains to us that the ducks must have had to fly to the store for some ducky snacks.
Then, we head to the nearby barn. Inside there are different areas where the kiddos can learn about farm life: a ribbon loom, a country grocer, a field of tractors and livestock, etc. Claire immediately goes to play in the male-dominated tractor strip and discovers a horse and a John Deere lawn mower. She neighed with excitement. :) Meanwhile, Rory tried the "loom," and then moved on to building her own home with Lincoln Logs. Clearly, she needed a moment to consider her next architectural design.
Afterwards, Rory, Claire and I went through a corn-stalk decorated play area -- complete with wooden ladders and tunnel slides. Lunchtime was fast approaching, so we sat down for a quick refill of popcorn and apples. Yum!
For our final adventure, we decided on a nature walk. Along the trail, Rory noticed a mossy bed below a large group of trees; Daddy explained that water lay just beneath the greenery.
The girls tested this information; each launched rocks into the mossy covered pond. Too fun!
This is a picture of the corn maze we then walked through. Michael carried Jane; I carried Claire; and Rory walked. She was such a trooper!
To end our visit, we bought two small pumpkins - one for Rory and Claire. We had a great time!
